For the next seven weeks, TEXAS is ground zero in the fight between establishment Republicans and the Tea Party.
In the runoff for US Senate, the establishment candidate, David Dewhurst is taking off the gloves. At the state convention, he called Ted Cruz “a lawyer who’s funded principally by Washington special interests.” Someone in the crowed yelled out, “tell the truth.” The “special interest” that Dewhurst is referring to is “The Senate Conservatives Fund” – chaired by conservative icon, Senator Jim DeMint. And it’s fighting back. Matt Hoskins says in the TEXAS CONSERVATIVE REVIEW, “If David Dewhurst wants to declare war on conservatives, we’re going to fight back.” He says the organization is funded by thousands of Americans – almost 9-thousand of them in Texas – with average donations of $45. It’s now clearly the establishment versus the Tea Party in this key Senate race.
